Homework for the WEEK of 4/25

Sharks, Barracudas, and Stingrays have a week long project.
The goal of the project is to discover how immigration has affected students.
The assignment is to interview three family members from an older generation and complete two charts that the students have been given.
One of the charts asks if they know of any family members who have immigrated to the US within the last 130 years.
I have a bet going with the kids that if they can prove that ALL of their ancestors have been in the US for more than 130 years I'll buy them a candy bar of their choice.
Students need to get a parental signature so that I know they have completed three interviews and they need to fill out the forms as completly as possible.

***I have extended the due date for this project until Monday May 2nd in order to give some kiddos time to get the required interviews***

Possible homework due Monday 4/18

This week Sharks, Barracudas, and Stingrays have been working on maps of US immigration. The maps and the assessment for the maps are due on Monday April 18th. Most students were able to finish these in class but there are a few who were not able to. This whole assignment makes for a large grade so you might want to ask if your child has turned it in already. Piranhas only started this project on Friday so they have no homework this weekend.

Tomorrow they need to turn in a paragraph that discusses at least four of those facts. The paragraph must be a complete and proper paragraph i.e. it must have an introductory sentence, four sentences that make up the body (the four facts in sentence form) and a concluding paragraph. It does not matter in what format I recieve this paragraph (written, typed, email etc.) There is no homework for Barracudas.

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

Jan. 19th.
There is homework tonight for Sharks and Barracudas.
The map portion of the homework has proven to be more confusing than I had anticipated.
The idea is that the kids have to have three things on it.
1. They must have the 11 countries on the original map written in on the blank map
2. They must have the general outline of the borders of teh Roman Empire from the original map.
3. They must correctly label the five cities (marked with a small square) on the blank map.

This is just meant as an assesment of how well the kiddos are understanding the scale of the Roman Empire. If your child(ren) are having a difficult time please feel free to help them or just write me a quick note saying that they did not understand and I will excuse that.

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Sorry for the late post on this .
There is homework due tomorrow (1/19) for Sharks, Barracudas and Stingrays
It is to read Ch. 1 (pages 1-3) of the new reading packet for Rome/Christianity unit.
What is due is the Textbook Preview/Review think sheet.

Welcome back

January 4th 2011.
Thanks so much for all of the wonderful and generous gifts. From tasty candies to movie tickets and scented candles and cookies and a wonderful dinner at Le Central (best French restaurant in Denver, go sometime!) I received many great gifts. Bromley is such a wonderful community to be a part of :-)

There is no homework today.

For the first two weeks of the new year we will be covering the Greek gods, Alexander the Great and the philosophers, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.
One of the points that I focus upon with the Greeks is how much we borrow from them culturally, so feel free to point out any Greek influences you spot in our society today.
